Brunch spots in Toronto

Overall experience: ✨3.25/5✨ 💸$15/person💸 - Cash only Light Café has been on our list for ages. Really, who can resist the temptation of a black heart-shaped waffle (the cliché lines are aplenty!) - so we popped in, not really for brunch, but for a strong coffee and their signature charcoal waffles.

There's been huge hype about them and social media can attest to it. Everywhere we looked, people were Instagramming their waffles to the leafy green background - it is after all, their best seller. Boy, was it unexpected and exciting!

There's something unseemly about the sight of black food - as if you're not meant to eat it, but one bite of these sesame-flavoured waffles, and we were sold. They taste like the biscuits your mum used to make when you were five and she was experimenting, just with ice cream (yayayayayay!) and a lot more pizzazz.

The cotton candy coffee is a novel idea - and may we add, not sickeningly sweet at all! In fact, like any good coffee, it is dark and bitter, and full of incredible flavour. Pictured here are both those items, along with their Light Café signature coffee in fun test tubes.

We'd definitely recommend a visit, if not for the playful ideas on changing up classic foods, then for the friendly staff and cosy atmosphere. Just make note, they do only accept cash - and if you're anything like us and have this inseparable love with your card and not cash, they also have an ATM machine at the back of the café.

Let us know if you've been!
