Overall experience: ✨4.25/5✨
There's something to be said about a weekday brunch and how it's so rarely done in the city. We had our Monday morning strangely off, and with breakfast on our minds, we headed out to Maman located in the heart of the financial district. We'd heard so much about their matcha pancakes, the French-inspired cuisine, and fell head over heels in love with the blue pattern that swirled over everything. What a grand idea we thought (they're only open on weekdays incidentally), what a fail it turned out to be. Maman, although packed with fresh pastries and buttery croissant (and men handsomely dressed in suits), does not do brunch anymore. Lunch was offered at a later hour, and we wouldn't be #thebrunchingduo if we didn't do brunch. Hearts heavy, we anguished in hopes of a more substantial brunch... and soon, Maha's came to mind. We loved them, we love them - but could not going on a busy weekend change their score? Turns out it could! The last time we went our experience was clouded by the wait time. Now, we take a serious approach to rating each place we go to - we rate based on the entire experience; food quality, taste, expense, service and yes, even wait times. It's the whole picture that counts - and despite Maha's having one of the best brunches we've had, the two hour wait was agonising - especially when no shows who'd come back hours later were being seated before us. Agonising and hanger-inducing.
We once again went for the sunny eggs and foul and the uncannily delicious date scramble - and also decided to try some new dishes (we're notorious for over-ordering, can you tell?). The Betengan, a garlicky tehina sauce paired with roasted eggplant in a pita, and Maha's famous mind blowing chicken... and yes, it was mind-blowing. Can they do no wrong? We'd like to admit, on a weekday, you can readily get a table within minutes of walking in - and that kind of changes our score. We've set a similar standard for each place we visit, and measure it on a busy weekend day when one is most likely to go. On a cold Monday like today, Maha's gets 4.25 ☆s out of 5, and that's an all-time high for us - while on a weekend, we rated it as 3.9/5.
Some things you can't forget, and when it comes to food (and wait times), Maha's is truly unforgettable. We hope you enjoyed our repeat review of Maha's - and we hope to keep that consistent fairness across the board for all places!
Let us know what you thought of this time's visit!
