If you've ever read anything Jane Austen, there comes a point (apart from the anguish you feel over the characters taking their sweet, sweet time to reconcile) where you wish you could go back in time and enjoy a proper tea service... like the whole nine yards kind of service - crisp napkins, mismatched tea cups and saucers, and a cosy corner to gossip. KATB is all that and more, plus a fun name.
Now we have no idea where their namesake came from (one can let their imagination run wild), but this little tea room in Parkdale is a beautiful experience. It takes you far away from the bustle of city life, tucks you into a magical wonderland, and lets you play Alice (or the Mad Hatter, if you please).
It is very well described, from the jam spreads and the love that went into making them, to the teas and each of their exact peculiarities. For people who love tea, we truly enjoyed our experience there. It's a quaint joint (enough for 5 people to be seated) but if you're ever in the area and looking to take their goodies home, their service is quick and delightful. The warm, fresh scones are a bonus!
Overall, we give their tea service 4☆s out of 5. Yes, it's not exactly brunch but it's awfully filling and the jams are to die for! Their service is the best we've ever had (they even accommodated our no alcohol request joyfully), and life suddenly felt so much better within the warmth of their tea room.
KATB do specialize in jam making. Be it the black plum and Earl Grey confiture, or their signature collection (of note: some are bourbon or liqueur flavoured to add in a natural sweetness), but each has a unique twist and fun blend. And if you're as won over as we were, you can always take a jar home along with their frozen ready-to-bake scones. We totally know what we're doing this weekend!
